The Examined Life Framework
Building an intentional life.
“It is not that we have a short time to live, but that we waste a lot of it.”
— Seneca
Four thousand weeks.
If we are lucky enough to reach the age of 80, that is how few weeks we will have.
As long as humans have been alive, this has been the defining issue: how to use this time we all have been granted.
In order to use it wisely, I believe there are 6 primary pillars that build a well-rounded life:
1 — Purpose
This is the foundation upon all foundations rest; your drive.
Covering metaphysical beliefs (religion) and what that means for how to live, all the way through ethics, morals, and what gets you out of bed.
2 — Profession
This is your output into the world, your value production.
Typically, this includes an education, career path, and income; but it doesn’t need to have all or any of those. Under this umbrella includes side projects (side gigs) and any other form of output (thought leadership, etc).
3 — Health
To continue living well, you must stay both physically and mentally healthy.
Covering all things physical health (diet, working out, athletics, flexibility) as well as mental health (journaling, therapy, mindfulness, dopamine management).
4 — Connect
Riding the waves of life with other people.
Covering all forms of relationships (romantic, familial, platonic, and professional).
5 — Wealth
This is the ability to leverage finances in your life.
Comprehensive system involving income, fixed costs, spending, investments/savings journey, and credit.
6 — Development
This is the system of growth in all the other areas, this keeps you on track.
Primarily involved with (1) managing some form of system for regularly reviewing your life, (2) managing the information you intake (via reading, social media, or other forms), and (3) spending time on your hobbies, your personality.
“The unexamined life is not worth living.”
— Socrates
This website acts as my working document on each of these areas, and more. As I grow and learn, this is the underlying framework for how I aim to judge my own life.
Thank you for being here.
